The network shows roads which can be accessed by Class 2 B-double heavy vehicle combinations which exceed general access gross mass (50 tonnes)1 or 21m overall length2, when operating in compliance with the National Class 2 B-double Authorisation Notice2019 andoperator guide

This network also shows roads which can be accessed by B-doubles operating under several other Class 2 / 3 Notices or Schemes (see Relevant Notices and Schemes below).

Maximum vehicle dimension for this network are up to 26m overall length and 4.3m overall height3.

Restricted structures (red dots) must not be crossed.

Roads not shown as approved (green) or conditionally approved (orange) require road manager approval for access by permit. Application for access by permit is to be made through theNHVR. It is permitted to travel off route if the road is marked with detour signage.

Operators must check for road closures and road conditions prior to travel to ensure clear passage. For roads managed by Department of State Growth this information is available on theDepartment of State Growth websiteand by selecting the “Show State Growth Road Works” button on this map.

Higher Mass Limits (HML) Roads

Roads which are part of the Tasmanian Declared HML Route Network can be superimposed using the "Show HML Network" Button.

Over the HML network, Class 2 B-double heavy vehicle combinations which comply with the Tasmania Higher Mass LimitsDeclaration2016 can operate with axle group masses up to 17.0t for a tandem axle group, and up to 22.5t for a tri-axle group.

A class 2 B-double at HML which exceeds 21.0m in length2 cannot operate over the Tasmanian Declared HML Route Network unless the road is also part of the Tasmanian 26 metre B-double Network or access has been granted by permit.

Relevant Notices and Schemes:

150.5t if the vehicle is eligible to operate under the steer axle mass exception limits
221.3m, if the trailer is fitted with a rear load-restraining guard that complies with the Forestry Safety Code.
3up to 4.6m, if operating under one of the Relevant Notices or Schemes allowing heights up to 4.6m.

The network shows roads which can be accessed by Class 2 B-double heavy vehicle combinations which do not exceed 23m overall length and are operating in compliance with the National Class 2 B-double AuthorisationNotice2019 andoperator guide

Maximum vehicle dimension for this network are up to 23m overall length and 4.3m overall height.

Note: On some roads that make up the 23m network it is a condition of access that the load height on the combination is restricted to a height less than 4.3m above the ground. Click on a route to show these conditions.

Restricted structures (red dots) must not be crossed.

This map shows signposted clearance signs on Tasmania’s road network, and is intended to be a planning tool to assist heavy vehicle operators and drivers.

It is important to note that:

Height clearances expressed in 0.1m increments are shown by location symbols on the map. The different colours of the symbols are height groupings as shown in the key.

Zoom in to street level to view the individual symbol and click on its centre to view clearance height and any additional information.

What roads are included?

The map shows the locations and height clearance of structures with signposted clearances.

How is it measured?

Vertical clearances for structures are measured in the field. The height clearance figures are a result of application of a safety margin to allow for tolerances in vehicle height measurements, road surface variations due to minor road works such as patching, tolerances to measured values due to road and bridge geometry at the site and any possible serviceability deflections of the over-structure.

What is my responsibility?

It is the responsibility of the operator and driver of a vehicle to know the height of their vehicle and load and to ensure that the clearance under overhead structures is sufficient to enable safe passage. A driver must not travel or attempt to travel beneath a bridge or overhead structure if the height of the vehicle and load is higher than the height shown on the map, or indicated by a clearance sign shown on the structure.

How often the map is updated?

We update this information continually. The figures may be reviewed on request if necessary.
